Day 1 – Katherine Gorge

They go off bright and early in the morning and spend the day in Nitmiluk, also known as Katherine Gorge. The Katherine River has formed a deep and beautiful canyon out of ancient sandstone. Enjoy the tranquil waters on a cruise or go canoeing throughout the summer (own expense). The campsite next to Mataranka is a little distance down the road.

Day 2 – Mataranka Thermal Pools

A morning dip in the Mataranka Thermal Pools, a verdant haven bordered by paperbark trees, is the perfect way to kick off the day. They go to a particular place after they’ve rested. You can’t go to the “Territory” and not stop by the Daly Waters Pub. Take in some local culture while enjoying a refreshing beer. They set up camp for the night at the old Banka Banka Cattle Station as the day comes to a close.

Day 3 – Devils Marbles

Along the way, they go past Tennant Creek and eventually reach the Devil Marbles, also known as Karlu Karlu, a group of enormous granite boulders that seem to be floating in midair. Upon crossing the Tropic of Capricorn, they will have traversed only 20% of the southern portion of the Northern Territory. Staying on the road, they will eventually reach Alice Springs.
