Dead Rabbits ‘Time Is Your Only Enemy’
If you’re a fan of The Jesus & Mary Chain, listen up! Southampton-based quintet, Dead Rabbits, brought to you by Fuzz Club Records, are reviving the 90s with their brand of shoegazing psychedelic Rock. Singer Thomas Hayes’ drawling and nasal delivery emerges from the reverb-drenched songs led by Neil Atkinson Jr’s scratching, noisy guitar sound. 2013 saw the band release their debut album ‘The Ticket That Exploded’, a fitting reference to William S. Burroughs’ anarchic novel of the same name. After touring all over Europe and the UK, including support slots with the likes of Band of Skulls and Yuck, Dead Rabbits are already back with a brand new album.
And ‘TimeIsYourOnlyEnemy’ is everything you’d want a sophomore record to be. It is essentially a follow-up in that their distinctive sound is still there, but the songs are slicker, the tunes catchier and the performances more assured. The band claims influence both from The Beatles and My Bloody Valentine, and they’ve taken the best of those two worlds, effectively crafting a unique brand of catchy Noise Pop. Such a well-executed effort cannot go unnoticed, and it won’t. Expect to hear a lot more about Dead Rabbit in the coming months. 2014 is their year.
‘TimeIsYourOnlyEnemy’ is out now on Fuzz Club Records.
