Diary Of A Travel Blogger: From Penang To Paris
This week, we catch up with travel blogger Hui Min Ho, who fills us in on her travels. Originally from Malaysia but currently in Newcastle we find out a bit more about just why she loves travelling so much!
Name: Hui Min Ho
Born in: Malaysia
Currently in: Newcastle, United Kingdom
Hobbies and interests: Travelling, cooking, yoga
Why do you think travelling is important?
It opens up one’s mind by meeting new people in new places, a break from usual routine and do something out of the comfort zone make us all learn and grow especially when travelling alone. Life is short, why not?
What excited you the most about visiting new places?
I’m a foodie, the first thing I look into is the foods to try! Also new friends and small little things that I might encounter which normally make my journey more interesting.
Most thrilling experience you’ve ever had whilst travelling?
I have a serious height phobia, I guess my thrilling experience will not sound as thrilling as others. Worst one is at the top of the Grand Canyon when it was windy and everybody was taking photos at the edge, I was near to the edge and I just couldn’t do it!
Where would you encourage people to travel and why?
I would encourage people to travel to Penang, partly because I’m a Malaysian, I personally think that they have lots to offer on this small little island, you can have a very relaxing holiday by the beautiful and calming beach, and with its strong heritage and culture you will discover the unique historical buildings with both eastern and western influence. You will not leave Penang without praising the foods because it’s so good! Literally!
What’s your favourite city in the world?
I would say Paris, not because it’s a romantic city, I think it’s because I have a thing for French language? I love the streets and cafes in Paris, wandering around the place without any planned journey is totally do-able for me. Of course, I have a thing for their boulangerie too.
The thing you won’t leave home without?
Phone, by all means, to look for directions in new places and to stay in contact with loved ones.
Most dangerous place you’ve been to?
I haven’t been to a real dangerous place before *touch wood* , the only place I felt uncomfortable was Barcelona when I was a victim of pickpocket. (So watch out!)
Where’s your next journey going to take you?
I’m going backpacking few places in Europe soon, it’s going to be another whole new level for me as it’s the first time for me to do solo backpack in Europe but I’m looking forward to it as it will be an adventurous journey! The place I look forward the most is Cinque Terre, where I can get some hiking done on this distinctively beautiful coast of Italian Riviera.
Somewhere you’re trying to discover?
Bhutan, there’s something about the calmness of this landlocked country that I want to immerse myself into it.
Best view you’ve been lucky enough to see?
It was on a recent trip of Neushwanstein Castle in Germany. Never had I thought I would have a chance in my life to visit a castle that inspired the Sleeping Beauty castle, and the view was from top of the hill.
