Diary Of A Travel Photographer From Tulum To Turkey

After stumbling across her rather impressive instagram gallery, we decided we needed to find out a little more about Travel Photographer, Sharon Lewin and her fantastic travel photos.

Current Location: Gold Coast, Australia

Favourite hot place to visit:
Tulum, Mexico. It has everything to offer within an hour’s drive, which for me is important as I cannot just sit on a beach all day. There is everything from turquoise water and white sand beaches, Ancient Ruins, cenotes, and you can even go swimming with the sea turtles. After being on the road for 6 months, this was the perfect place to recharge before continuing on my journey.
Most happening city you’ve been to:
New York City. I worked in NYC for 6 months in 2007 and although the corporate lifestyle isn’t for me, this city is definitely one that I always enjoy returning to. After all it is the city that never sleeps!!
Best airport for stopping over in:
Singapore – Changi Airport. There is everything from a mini cinema to calming gardens. You can definitely entertain yourself for hours while waiting for a connecting flight.

Most dangerous place you’ve been to:
San Pedro Sula, Honduras. It’s not rated the world’s most dangerous city for no reason! I was here for 12 hours, which was 12 hours too long. Definitely avoid this city at all costs and if you are travelling through Honduras trying to reach Guatemala, I highly recommend spending the night elsewhere.
The most calming place you’ve been to:
Providencia, Colombia. This island that belongs to Colombia is located in the Caribbean Sea and has such a relaxing vibe to it. The locals are friendly and everyone runs on island time, so you shouldn’t be in a hurry to go anywhere if you plan on going to Providencia.
The most incredible view you’ve taken in:
This one is difficult, but the Rocky Mountains, Canada and also the Atacama Desert in Chile. Both have very different scenery but both equally amazing to witness.

Best cold place you’ve been to:
The Rocky Mountains in Canada is definitely my favourite cold destination. I have never been skiing/snowboarding before, but this didn’t stop me finding plenty of other activities and amazing scenery amongst the ski towns in the Rocky Mountains.
The thing you don’t leave home without:
When I’m on the road travelling I can’t leave my room without my camera – Canon 5d mkii.


The hardest journey you’ve done:
I wouldn’t consider any of the journey’s I’ve been on hard. I rather see my travels as learning experiences and take each as they come.
The most incredible food you’ve tasted:
The food in Turkey is definitely my favourite from the places I have travelled to so far. Everything from the entrées to the main meals and even the apple tea!
Somewhere you’re yet to discover:
I really want to explore Papua New Guinea, I am drawn to the country from the scenery to the cultures.
