Die Antwoord Announce New Album Donker Mag

Everyone’s favourite South African Zef duo are back with their latest LP ‘Donkey Mag’ due out on 2nd June 2014. What can only be described as Rave Rap takes us back to the hard core 90s rave scene with ripping synths, and repetitive lyrics that will be stuck in your head in no time at all. The second single from the album it ‘Pitbull’ which comes bounding to the fore with a grotesque, weird, but captivating video.

Spreading ‘Zef’ culture is Die Antoord’s mission, with female member Yo-Landi explaining “”It’s associated with people who soup their cars up and rock gold and shit. Zef is, you’re poor but you’re fancy. You’re poor but you’re sexy, you’ve got style.”

The video to ‘Pitbull’ was directed by NINJA and executive produced by NINJA and ¥O-LANDI, this is their first since the release of DONKER MAG album track, ‘Cookie Thumper!’ almost a year ago.

The macabre and addictive nature of their video projects cannot be understated. Their initial explosion onto the world’s music stage came to pass when early video releases of “ZEFSIDE” and “Enter The Ninja” from debut album ‘$O$’ racked up views in the tens of millions. As that fascination evolved into hunger, major record labels scrambled to sign them, eventually penning a million dollar deal with Interscope. Refusing to allow message to become compartmentalized, Die Antwoord outspokenly broke off from their label deal and created ZEF RECORDZ in which they released their sophomore album ‘TEN$ION’ in 2012.

What we love about Die Antwoord is their utterly unique style, and fun but fierce tracks… even if they do scare us a bit! We have to say we love the fact that there’s actually a dude in the video who looks like Pitbull… but we could do without the blood and the gobbing in each other’s mouths.
