Discover Newly-Opened Lizard Island
Following the damage caused by cyclones Ita and Nathan, Lizard Island has undergone 16 months of a $45 million renovation, and is now open to provide tropical escapes to the Great Barrier Reef.
The resort accommodation is better than ever, with the latest opening of the Marlin Bar marking the completion of the refurbishments, as well as the arrival of the many spear fish to the waters that surround the island. Also new to the resort is The Villa, a luxurious space with two bedrooms, two en-suites, a lounge, kitchen and an outdoor area. It also boasts its own private plunge pool, as do the beautiful Sunset Point Plunge Pool Villas.
An exciting announcement in addition to the revamp is the Essentia Day Spa and Parisian skincare range, La Biosthetique, for guests to feel even more relaxed during their stay. They can also expect world-class cuisine with a daily-changing, fresh menu of Australian, Mediterranean and Asian flavours, accompanied by a thoroughly curated wine list.
Located in the gorgeous waters of the Great Barrier Reef, guests can of course expect to indulge in a wonderful array of activities. Complimentary with a booking are motorised dinghies, snorkelling equipment and lessons, glass bottom boat tours and more, and you can immerse yourself even further by opting for a dive course, a champagne sunset cruise or fishing charter at an additional charge.
Throughout the year, an abundance of wildlife lives on and visits the island, whether to nest or rest. January is known as Amphibious Month, when Green Tree Frogs and Monitor Lizards come out to play, while Black-Naped Terns begin nesting and feed on the summer fish. Come May time, Green Sea Turtles can be seen feeding along the beaches at low tide and pretty Swallowtail Butterflies add their touch of colour. June kicks off whale-watching season as the Humpback Whales begin their migration north, which continues through to early October. As the temperatures increase, the coral turns the blue waters orange, the migratory birds return, lizards emerge and Green, Loggerhead and Hawksbill Turtles can be spotted on the beaches.
Lizard Island is now fully open and taking bookings for the summer months.
