Discover The Yalgorup National Park
Discover the Yalgorup National Park south of Perth, a beautiful region known for its wide stretching lakes, tuart and peppermint woodlands and microscopic thrombolite communities that live on Lake Clifton like strange rock formations.
Nestled between the highway and the Indian Ocean, Yalgorup covers an area of 12,888 hectares and is home to 10 breath-taking lakes. The wetlands it preserves have been recognised by Bird Life International as an Important Bird Area due to the rare and unique ecosystem it contains: you’ll spot kingfishers, grebes, coots, waterfowl, varieties of parrots and dotterels and even black swans in and around the lakes. The Tuart forests and woodlands, impressive as they are by themselves, are also home to Western grey kangaroos, emus, brush wallabies, echidna, bandicoots and some adorable brush-tailed possums.
Western Australia may be a hub of untouched nature and incredible wildlife, but if you really want to experience the heart of WA, Yalgorup National Park is unmissable.
Wander the boardwalks over Lake Clifton to view the phenomenal thrombolite formations or take strolls in the picturesque woodlands. There are bush walks available to most ages and stages of fitness around Lake Preston, Lake Clifton, Heathlands, Martins Tank Campground and Lake Pollard.
The Martins Tank Campground has BBQ facilities and picnic tables, although most travellers prefer to stay at the nearby Preston Beach, just beyond the park boundary line, an ideal spot for swimming and fishing in the Indian Ocean.
