This month our favourite hostel in Melbourne, Discovery, recommends Beach Burrito in Fitzroy! Although there is absolutely nothing ‘beachy’ about Fitzroy, this restaurant does have a skate bowl… which is pretty cool.

Beach Burrito is a company that pride themselves on individuality, they do not stick with a ‘cut-out’ style venue like some of their franchised competitors. Having successfully opened 14 venues across the nation since they first opened in Bondi in 2006, each of the Beach Burrito destinations takes inspiration from something in the local community and culture.

Having opened in Fitzroy right next to rival fast food Mexican entrepreneurs; ‘Trippy Tacos’ Beach Burrito have definitely brought something new to the vibrant salsa-stained table with their very own skate bowl inside the actual restaurant.

BB Fitzroy flaunts a unique 80’s neon rock punk aesthetic with an in house playlist to match. It all runs on the very agreeable vibe of the golden days of surf and skate where a good feed was cheap and easy to get, the beers were cold and abandoned swimming pools were golden opportunities to ‘shred’.

Unfortunately the skate bowl is only available to use if you have been invited by the Beach Burrito crew. However it is probably for the best; as you could imagine after a few Pistonhead beers and a belly full of chimichangas a gnarly 6ft drop in is probably not what you need.
But sitting back with a belly full of hearty Mexican cuisine whilst watching the professionals tear up the pool is definitely something you could get use to.

For those of you whose bank accounts usually only allow a diet of 2 minute noodles and rice, BB have you sorted with a pretty tasty range of $5 tacos. If you like to live large you can select from the ‘Grande’ taco menu or lash out and get their ‘Nachos Especial’ which is a glorious mountain of everything good and holy that has come out of Mexico.

The Beach Burrito Company in Fitzroy also pride themselves on their ability to mix up a delicious frozen margarita, a tasty Pina Colada and soothing Mojito.
