DJ Jozif Interview
DJ Jozif Interview London born DJ and producer jozif is the unique artist behind the next release in the Balance mix series, titled ‘presents’. His creative use of unconventional sounds has contributed towards shaping the future of music. We caught up with jozif whilst he was in New York to find out what his favourite track from the album is, and which emerging artists we should watch out for in 2013.
How are you today? Where in the world are you right now?
I’m fine thank you; I have had a nice long sleep and a day’s rest after 2 weeks of craziness. Right now I’m in a very chilly NYC.
What was your most memorable moment in 2012?
Wow too many to mention. It’s a toss-up between two; Sunwaves festival and NYE in Barcelona.
What’s your favourite track from the ‘presents’ compilation album you’ve just recorded?
Steffi – ‘Sadness’
Tell me more about your ‘Fist Or Finger’ project with Craig Richards, what is it all about?
Well, it’s quite simple really; it’s just a place that he and I can put music out as and when we feel like. It’s a pretty rough and loose format so it’s perfect for us.
What music do you enjoy listening to when you’re chilling out at home?
Anything really, I’ve just started going back through all my old Rolling Stones records but I also like listening to more acoustic stuff. Jools Holland and Giles Peterson’s shows are never off the BBC iplayer.
Are there any emerging artists we should look out for in 2013?
Good question, I’m not too sure really. Sam Russo from Leftroom is a good one but I think he’s kind of there now so not necessarily new for 2013, I really like REbEL’s records, he’s a guy from the UK who’s got loads of cool stuff.
What’s your favourite venue to perform in?
Room 3 in Fabric, London.
Have you had any embarrassing moments whilst DJing at a club?
I try to block those ones out of my mind!
Who are your main influences?
My father, my brothers, Craig Richards and Andrew Weatherall.
What else can we expect from you in 2013?
I’m gonna sit down and write some songs for a new EP with an amazing vocalist. I want to do some more remixes as well as I haven’t really done many recently, some for the dance-floor.
