
DJ Woody @ Espy Front Bar
DJ Woody, the highly respected British scratch dj, is making his way to Australian shores for the very first time playing DJ Woody @ Espy Front Bar The Moo festival and his new ‘Big Phat 90’s’ AV show to The Espy on Friday 3 May.
Known for his innovations, DJ Woody helped Vestax design the worlds first ever musical turntable and even had DJ Qbert ask him how to do his signature ‘Woodpecker’ scratch. Although Woody’s roots lay firmly with hip hop, he isn’t isolated to the genre. DJ Woody @ Espy Front Bar A typical set can take in everything from party breaks and mash ups to hip hop, funk, disco or anything in between.
Woody has worked with some of the industry’s most revered producers and artists, recording with the likes of Aquasky, Bomb The Bass and DJ Vadim in addition to touring as the Russian Percussion, making up one quarter of the Ninjatunes supergroup One Self. He has written scratch music with a 25 piece big band orchestra, been tour DJ for Grammy winning hip hop star Mala Rodriguez, rocked festival crowds of up to 40 thousand, and played in over 40 countries in venues from The Nokia Theatre in Time Square to Bollywood film studios in the depths of Mumbai.
His ‘Big Phat 90’s’ AV show is a nostalgic chronological musical ride, taking in the likes of De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, Beastie Boys, Dr Dre and Snoop among others. DJ Woody reworks the classics with his unique blend of custom graphics, video sound bites and renowned turntable technique to rock the ‘slamminest’ 90’s house party since Kid n Play raised the roof.
