Opened in 1999 e:fifty five was ahead of the curve, offering internet and computer access to travelers and locals alike in a cosy couched, friendly lounge environment, a million miles away from the sterile and soulless internet cafes of the time. In 2005 e:fifty
five was the sole Australian nominee in the inaugural Rough Guide to the World’s Best Internet Cafes, at the time it was a place where people met to enjoy a coffee or a few drinks with mates, relax in the welcoming environment and take advantage of the bank of computers.

Now, in 2011, some things have changed. The computers are faster, the world now has high speed wifi as does e:fifty, the menu has moved with the times, now serving freshly baked baguettes and a range of pizzas, but the e:fifty vibe remains very much the same.

The perfect bar for travelers and locals to mix, e:fifty five’s focus on art, music and quality but reasonably priced food and beverages keep it a must see spot for travelers and a regular haunt for savvy locals.

Not relying on the staid i-pod playlists of many it’s contemporaries, e:fifty five boasts Melbourne’s best and freshest DJs six nights a week. Playing everything from Dub Step to Reggae, Glitch to Indie, Grime to Electro, you never know what you’re going to get
but you do know that it’ll be cutting edge, considered and mixed with passion.

Not content with being one of Melbourne’s best bars, providing fresh, wallet friendly food and reasonably priced local and imported beers, wines and ciders, e:fifty five also doubles as one of the city’s best gallery spaces for up and coming artists. The space is commission and fee free and boasts some of the best street art and photography in Melbourne, giving the bigger established galleries a run for their money in attracting the brightest talents.

In short, e:fifty five was a bar ahead of its time in 1999 and 12 years on still strives every day to keep fresh, vibrant and on the cusp of new developments, be they technological, artistic or epicurean.
