Vitamin D Deficient? Book an Egypt Tour!

Follow us on Google News

Your hair is lifeless and your typical weekend includes avoiding the rain with a drink at your local or having a sweat sesh at the gym. Mother Nature, bring back the sunshine! It’s time to book an Egypt tour…

While a sleep-in and a good spray tan (for the ladies) may help mask the fact that many of us living in the UK are vitamin D deficient (at least, according to Dr. Google), we think a holiday to some distant sunny shores is in order. After a search with old mate Google, there it is – Egypt.

Here we were thinking that Egypt was all mummies, temples and museums but in fact, there are also plenty of sandy beaches, scuba diving resorts, and best of all, sun.

After a quick 5-hour flight from London to Cairo, you’re greeted with a familiar dusty warmth that has the similarities of the weather in Asia with temperatures ranging from mid-20’s to mid-30’s however, the further south you go, the temperatures can get up into the 50’s!

In Cairo, Luxor and Aswan you’re able to get your fix of history and culture with plenty of temples, shrines and burial sites which include, the Great Pyramid of Giza, Luxor temple, Philea temple, Edfu temple, Temple of Hatshepsut, Valley of the Kings and Abu Simbel; an impressive temple in South Egypt near the Sudan border. This may sound like an overload however, each of these places are completely different due to the era they were created in, making the artwork, structure, the look and the hieroglyphics all diverse. Also, a big kudos to the Egypt tours are the local Egyptian tour guides who are so knowledgeable about these ancient wonders. Not only are they locals which is great because they have the inside scoop of their country, they’re also Egyptologists. This means that they’re historians that specialise in Ancient Egypt and its antiquities. So, they really do know everything!

After your brain has encountered an overload with dates and facts, along comes highlight number 1: sailing on a felucca boat down the Nile River. Here you get to spend 2 days sleeping, drinking, eating swimming, basking in the sun and getting to know your fellow travellers. This is a massive highpoint of the Egypt tour and you really appreciate the down time because after all the it’s a tour not a holiday.

From Edfu and Komombo then back to Luxor and Cairo, we then explore highlight number 2: Nuweiba and Dahab which is by the Red Sea. This hippy beauty is notorious for water sports and just what the Doctor (Google) prescribed. Hello, vitamin D! Here you can relax and unwind next to the sea with plenty of activities available such as swimming, snorkelling and diving.

When you’re eventually forced to peel yourself off the sun lounger, we headed back to Cairo before embarking on the gloomy flight back to London. Goodbye, sun-kissed skin.

Travel Talk offers Egypt tours that range in 9-day – 15-day itineraries which include Dahab.
