Ella Eyre – ‘We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off’
The 20-year old Londoner is really making waves in the UK with her incredibly mature soulful voice. Her cover of Jermaine Stewart’s biggest hit ‘We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off’ is one of the rare instances when the cover surpasses the original.
Where Stewart’s version was drowned in 80s production, Ella’s take on it is much simpler, and all the better for it. There are strings, but rather than sounding overblown, it only adds emotion to her rendition of the song.
“Show some class”, she sings, and it feels like this is the closest we’ve ever got to the original meaning of the track.
