Emily Wells Announces New Album ‘Promise’
Texan multi-instrumentalist, composer and songwriter, Emily Wells, has announced her return with new album ‘Promise’ on 29th January, preceded with the lead single ‘You Dream of China’.
Describing the track as “a soul record in baroque clothing…a paupers opera”, Emily Wells recounts her near apocalyptic view of the world during a monsoon following a festival in Inner Mongolia. Swirling repetition, beautiful strings and the artist’s own distinctive vocals encapsulates the moment in a dreamy ambience and beat-oriented soundscapes.
Difficult for comparison, She is Siouxsie Sioux, Sneaker Pimps and Tori Amos in a centrifuge waking up on the day after the apocalypse. A sentiment captured in the album’s cover of ‘Promesa’, an art installation by Cabella/Carceller depicting abandoned sites of pleasure.
A gloriously haunting track, it is an uncompromising expression of a careless world falling into a spiral of destruction.
