EP Review: Final Form – Final Form EP
EP Review: Final Form – Final Form EP Calling all indie rock, dance and electro pop lovers. If you still haven’t found your perfect cure to kick the January blues, then have a listen to Final Form’s debut EP; it could be just the solution you’ve been looking for.
Hailing from South East London, the recently formed quintet’s EP was released on January 1st 2013. The 5 track EP is packed full of cracking vocal harmonies, captivating samples and a diverse collection of electronic effects. It’s evident the bands eclectic and differing tastes in music have all been incorporated to produce this vivaciously personalised EP.
Admittedly, the introduction is a bit repetitive, and instead Final Form could have used this track to showcase another element to their music as the complete record lasts just 16 minutes. However it does offer listeners a good insight into what is to be expected from the rest of the record. But after a slow start, track three ‘Half Romance’ is where it really starts to shine. It begins with a tribal drumbeat before a fusion of synths flourish to form the beginnings of an upbeat and toe-tapping track.
‘Rise and Fall’ sounds like it was definitely written for the stage. Just from the first listen, you can immediately imagine yourself standing in a dingy underground music venue, cider in hand, bopping along to the beat with a smile on your face. It would be good to hear more songs like this from them in future.
With final track ‘These Five Letters’ James’ soft and charismatic lead vocals combine beautifully with solid guitar riffs and cheerful synths. It really showcases the diverse range of his voice, but it’s the tightly amalgamated music that dominates the songs and really keeps the EP flowing forward.
So having started the year 2013 with a good solid first EP, there’s sure to be more great things to come from Final Form this year!
