EP Review: Wolf Alice – Blush
‘Blush’ is the debut EP to come from North London four-piece Wolf Alice and it is nothing short of transfixing.
EP opener ‘Blush’ begins with painfully soft vocals from front woman Ellie Roswell which transcend into a powerful narration for a track that is draped in subtle, reflective hints.
Roswell’s voice acts as the perfect accompaniment to the ethereal sounds created but in truth buddy up with the grungier sound of their music – showcased later on – even better.
By track two, ‘She’, the EP fully displays Wolf Alice’s bipolar nature. The pained yet serene build ups have been replaced with fuelled, angry guitar rhythms and lyrics – almost portraying a different band entirely.
‘Blush’ is the perfect demonstration of Wolf Alice’s multiformity. Where some bands fail to incorporate a plethora of genres successfully, Wolf Alice do so effortlessly, highlighting their strengths and illustrating their diverse capabilities – something that most new bands are afraid to explore.
