Jessica Mauboy returns with a powerful new single, ‘While I Got Time’ – a deeply personal offering that signals the beginning of an exciting new chapter for one of Australia’s most beloved artists.
Written with longtime collaborator PJ Harding, ‘While I Got Time’ arrives as a stripped-back, soul-baring moment that captures Jessica at her most vulnerable and assured.
“’While I Got Time’ really came from a place of reflection and release,” shares Mauboy. “PJ and I wrote it during a moment where I was thinking about what I want to leave behind, and what I want to lean into while I’m still here. It’s about letting go of the past with grace, honouring where I’ve been, and stepping into the unknown with open arms.”
‘While I Got Time’ also marks the debut release under Jessica’s own label, Jamally, distributed by DistroDirect. Created as a platform for her artistic freedom, Jamally allows Mauboy to lead her own creative process – recording, releasing, and marketing music on her own terms.
“This is the start of a new chapter for me – not just as a singer or performer, but as a storyteller and businesswoman too. After launching my beauty brand Desert Rose, creating Jamally felt like a natural evolution. It lets me work with people I trust and chase what lights me up,” she reflects.
Now navigating life as a new mum, Jessica brings fresh perspective and purpose to her songwriting. ‘While I Got Time’ captures the clarity and tenderness that comes with embracing change – offering comfort, courage, and a gentle reminder to live with curiosity and heart.
‘While I Got Time’ is also currently featuring on the country’s #1 Australian drama Home and Away (screening 7.00pm weeknights on Seven and 7plus), soundtracking the emotional farewell of beloved character Irene Roberts, played by 2025 Gold Logie nominee Lynne McGranger who is departing after 33 years on the show. The song’s themes of memory, change and stepping into the unknown resonate powerfully with the bittersweet storyline.
Jessica will also perform ‘While I Got Time’ live for the first time at the 2025 National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs) presented by YouTube on Saturday 9 August, where she will also be recognised for her outstanding contribution to music and culture with an induction to the NIMA Hall of Fame. The moment marks a powerful full-circle return for Mauboy, who first took to the NIMAs stage as a rising star and now returns as one of the country’s most influential and enduring artists.
