not without friends, the new project from three of Australia’s most globally celebrated electronic artists, Luke Alessi, William Kiss, and Jordan Brando – today announce the release of their debut single ‘without u’, alongside the official launch of their brand-new self titled imprint.
Individually, these three Melbourne-born producer/DJs have carved serious international reputations, earning support from the world’s biggest selectors and clocking regular spins at major festivals and headline shows. But together, something truly special happens. With over 15 years of friendship between them, not without friends is a celebration of connection, collaboration, and pure creative freedom.
‘without u’, captures the spirit of the project in full flight – bright, euphoric, and undeniably fun. Born during a spontaneous weekend at a grandparent’s house down the coast, the trio set up a makeshift studio: “speakers on the coffee table, synths on the floor, laptop on the couch.” Nine-ball pool was played for hours while ABC Jazz soundtracked the afternoons, beers flowed, and summer was just around the corner.
“We wanted to write something that soundtracked the Aussie summer ahead. This project is about fun, friendship, and not giving a f*ck. We like the tune, we hope you do too.”
Already supported by Barry Can’t Swim, DJ Seinfeld, Malugi, Chloé Caillet, Arielle Free, Chris Lake, Danny Howard, and Patrick Mason, ‘without u’ is a shimmering first step into the shared creative universe of three of the most supported names to come out of the Southern Hemisphere.
And it’s not just the music that’s turning heads. The collective has already sold serious tickets to events across Melbourne, with shows popping up in never-before-used spaces like Heide Sculpture Park. In less than a year, not without friends has built a reputation for doing things differently, combining their DIY ethos with bold curatorial vision.
Last week, the trio took another leap, supporting RÜFÜS DU SOL in London and bringing their distinct Melbourne flavour to a global stage, playing with them on 5th July at Crystal Palace Park.
The release of ‘without u’ also marks the launch of their new imprint, giving the trio full creative control and a platform to release music on their own terms – something as playful and liberated as the project itself.
