Getting under the skin of each location, without having to rush from one to another, you can tick off Australian activities and visit breathtakingly beautiful places with a group of pretty awesome people. So, who’s up for exploring?
You can start in Sydney or Cairns on this trip, depending on which option you book. Let’s begin in Sydney, where you meet your tour group and Trip Manager, and experience both the buzzing city and surrounding countryside with trips to the Blue Mountains, Manly Beach and Darling Harbour, where you can capture those desired snaps of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge!
From Sydney, you travel north, stopping at the coastal town of Coffs Harbour for a night at the Aussie Surf Camp and a morning surf lesson. After drying off, it’s back on the road for Byron Bay, Australia’s traditionally hippy beachside gem. With one night here, you can make the most of it by heading to Cape Byron Lighthouse to spot dolphins, or even get up close to them on a kayaking adventure (me-time optional extra).
The next day, you cross the New South Wales border into Queensland, where you come face-to-face with Australia’s amazing native animals like koalas, kangaroos, wombats, emus, dingoes and even crocodiles at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. In the evening, you arrive at Surfers Paradise, where you can soak up the party atmosphere of the Gold Coast with an optional cabaret dinner and VIP entry into one of the best clubs in town. Freshen up after the night before and enjoy the daytime delights of Surfers Paradise with a free day to chill out on the beach or even head into the Hinterland on a 4WD trip (me-time option).
After another night in Surfers Paradise, you travel further up the coast to Noosa, stopping off in Queensland’s capital of Brisbane on the way. The resort town of Noosa has a laidback pace, and you’ll get to soak it all up with sunbathing, swimming and dinner by the beach. Onto your eighth day and over halfway through your trip, the action is cranked up a notch as you head over to Fraser Island. One of the most unique islands in the world, this UNESCO World Heritage sand island boasts 40 freshwater lakes, rainforest, wildlife, shipwrecks, 4WD fun and an eco lodge where you’ll be spending the night.
As you return to the mainland, it’s time for a different Aussie experience with a stop at a country homestead in Queensland’s cattle country. Take a sneak peek into daily life on a farm, enjoy a dinner of local roast beef and vegetables, and have a go at cracking a whip.
The next morning, you say goodbye to your hosts and travel to Airlie Beach, the gateway to the paradise of the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef. Getting off the mainland once again, you sail out to Daydream Island, spending the day at leisure walking through the rainforest, swimming in the pool or trying a few water sports – whatever you like. You can add on a day of sailing in the Whitsundays, including a stop at Whitehaven Beach, as a me-time optional extra.
Back on dry land, you and your group make your way to the tropical city of Cairns. There are so many things to try here including scuba diving, white water rafting, bunjy jumping and skydiving (me-time options)! For your final night, you journey into Cape Tribulation, where the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest meet. Explore this jungle paradise with an aboriginal guide, soak up the gorgeous waters of Mossman Gorge, and glide through the canopy on a zipline (me-time option). Spend the night in the heart of Cape Tribulation, and spend your last day visiting Port Douglas, a resort town of palm trees and white sand, before returning to Cairns for the end of your Reefs And Rainforests adventure.
From £1,745pp, Reefs And Rainforests (Start Sydney) includes 15 nights multi-share accommodation, coach travel, national park entry fees, a Trip Manager, 22 meals and loads of fun with a tour group.
