Explore From Broome To The Bungle Bungles In Western Australia
Some jaw-dropping landscape can be found on this five-day trip through the Kimberley region of Western Australia, including the famous Bungle Bungles, Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek.
Departing from Broome, your first stop is at the Old Fitzroy Crossing and Mangkaja Aboriginal Arts Centre, before a majestic cruise through Geikie Gorge between the Geikie and Oscar Ranges, looking out for freshwater crocodiles, birds and fish while you learn about its formation and fascinating geology.
Beginning with a visit to the gold rush town of Halls Creek, you’ll spend your second and third day in Purnululu National Park, home to the extraordinary Bungle Bungles. You’ll get settled at the safari camp with a sunset dinner and night under the stars, ready to explore the highlights of the park the following day. The Bungle Bungles are a breath-taking sight; orange and black beehive domes that formed by rivers over 20 million years. You’ll also get to explore Echidna Chasm and Cathedral Gorge, and take a scenic flight over the Bungle Bungles for a different view (optional extra at own expense).
On day four, you bid farewell to Purnululu and head to the large, ancient Mimbi Caves in Gooniyandi Country. These limestone caves are one of the oldest in Western Australia and you’ll get to hear all about their crystal clear pools, fossils and rock art from a local guide. For an even more cultural experience, meet with the traditional owners of the land and share some damper and billy tea before heading back to the Fitzroy Crossing.
Waking by the Fitzroy River on your fifth and final day in the Kimberley, you enter Bunuba Country and visit the 750-metre cave system of Tunnel Creek. At the end of the tunnel, you’re welcome to swim in the swim in the refreshing waters before embarking onwards to Windjana Gorge. Another astounding sight, stare up at the 90-metre-high walls during a picnic lunch and spot harmless freshwater crocodiles. Jumping back in the van, Gibb River Road takes from this incredible landscape back towards Broome for the end of your trip.
