F*** Me I’m Famous – Cathy & David Guetta – Album Review
Mr and Mrs David and Cathy Guetta combine to curate new Ibiza mix album ‘F**k Me I’m Famous’, a selection of tunes encapsulating the atmosphere of their much heralded new night at Balearic super club Pacha.
Following the huge release of his hit laden album, ‘Nothing but the Beat’, the crown prince of modern day dance and his wife Cathy have curated 15 tracks of four on the floor, fist pumping, electro euphoria that is sure to bring back fond memories of Guetta explosive live set this summer.
The mix starts as it means to go on, commencing with Guetta’s recent bass heavy hits ‘Where Them Girls At’ featuring Nicki Minaj and Flo Rida, followed quickly by Snoop Dog on ‘Sweat’, a mere nod to the huge number of global artists that seem to be queuing up to receive the Guetta stamp of approval these days.
The album shifts gear when in drops dance floor classic ‘Rapture’ before seamlessly sequencing perfectly into Chris Brown, Benny Benassi and his ‘Beautiful people.’ Surprisingly only one more Guetta track follows as the albums sublime mix of house, techno and 8 bit electronica gradually builds, showcasing slightly more progressive explorations, a reworked version of Nina Simone’s ‘Sinnerman’ a particular highlight towards the end.
It’s fair to say, like him or loathe him, Guetta has become the template for what is the modern commercial dance sound. In a similar way to Daft Punk’s seminal album of the last decade, albeit with a lot less innovation, David Guetta’s sound has formed the foundation of a global army of imitators. The F*** I’m a Famous set is very much an album in this mold, the Guetta’s have a magic formula, so why fix what ain’t broke.
