Fantine Returns To Melbourne In June
Fantine’s last visit to Melbourne was during her 2011 headline tour with her full band. This time, she returns to showcase her acoustic set and to feature her latest single “Don’t Come Around”. This powerful, driving, dark indie pop gem reveals Fantine as a vocal force to be reckoned with.
Fluent in English, Spanish, Russian, and French, Fantine is a unique talent with a musical style that reflects her cultural diversity, and is described as a fusion of indie and electro soul. Fantine first came onto the Australian scene in 2010 as guest vocalist and co-writer with Space Invadas (featuring Katalyst and Steve Spacek) who were signed to Geoff Barrow’s label from Portishead. Fantine toured extensively with Space Invadas and performed at major festivals including Future Music, Golden Plains, Splendour in the Grass, and provided support for Lupe Fiasco.
2011 saw triple j airplay success with Fantine’s singles “Rubberoom” and “Eleven” being added to rotation. In addition to her airplay success, Fantine toured nationally across Australia and New Zealand, supported Daniel Merriweather and rounded out the year as guest vocalist with Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) on the Stevie Nicks ‘In Your Dreams’ Tour. After a massive start to 2012, which saw Fantine support Grammy award winner Erykah Badu at her two critically acclaimed sold out performances at the Sydney Opera House, tour with indie nu-soul artist Mayer Hawthorne, grace the stage again as support for Daniel Merriweather during an exclusive run of university performances, she has settled into the studio to record her debut album with producer Lee Groves (Goldfrapp, Bertie Blackman).
Fantine’s will be joined by guests Hiatus Kaiyote and Remi. From 9pm.
