Felix Riebl, Oxford Art Factory, Friday 5th August
Felix Riebl is a musical legend after enjoying 15 years of success being the front man for one of Australia’s liveliest and well-known bands, The Cat Empire. He came back from America with a broken heart and so he did what most musicians would do and wrote an album about it. We sent BBM’s Sarah Wilk along to see what she thought…
Felix Riebl sang soulfully from the beginning of the set and he looked at one with the world when he was poised graciously behind the piano. Riebl poured his heart out and nothing was hidden lyrically, in tracks such as Worries I’ve had it felt like a musical love letter that he was reading out word for word.
I Won’t Know You Anymore was one of the many times he brought a well packed out venue to silence.
His three guitarists played beautifully on all songs, one track had a quicker pace that was well needed before going back into love fuelled ballads, perfect for the couples around the room.
This was Felix’s 2nd ever performance of his solo album Into The Rain in its rawest and newest form leaving a sense of contemplation and heartache in its live form.
Into The Rain is out now
