Maureen Cove – Hook Island
Located to the north of Hook Island, Maureen Cove boasts a coral rubble beach with uninterrupted views of the reef. Popular among scuba-divers, snorkelers and sailors alike, the cove is home beautiful marine life and large coral bommies beginning twelve to fifteen minutes beneath the surface of the water and rising three meters above. Camping facilities are available, so visitors can pitch up their tent and soak up an exquisite sunset.
Molle Island National Park
Surrounded by golden beaches and pockets of rainforest, Molle Island National Park is the ideal location for panoramic views of unspoiled wildlife. There are many walking tracks available for keen hikers and snorkeling opportunities at Sandy Bay for the adrenaline junkies among us. Unwind on the crisp white sand, or in the shade beneath a tree with a picnic and a good book, the best things in life are free after all!
Living Reef – Daydream Island
One of the world’s biggest man made coral reefs, the Living Reef on Daydream Island is a must-see location when visiting the Whit Sunday Islands. The reef comprises over eighty species of marine fish and more than fifty species of coral. Interactions with marine life have become a popular activity over the years. Visitors are able to hand feed the barramundi that inhabit the reef, as well as get up close and personal to ‘Pancake and Pikelet’ the resident stingrays. Whatever age visitors may be, all guests are captivated and inspired by the beauty of life beneath the waves.
Cannon vale
Just a five minute stroll from Airlie Beach lies Cannonvale, its stunning, well-preserved coast is an ideal location for a quick dip in the warm waters. Cannonvale beach encompasses public barbeque and picnic areas so visitors can grab a quite bite to each before heading back to the golden sands. Grab your friends and explore the rock pools, or take a leisurely stroll around the intimate town and shopping facilities during your visit.
Lindeman Island National Park
Part of the Great Barrier Reef World National Heritage, the Lindeman Island National Park boasts an array of vegetation and wildlife in its grasslands, wetlands and rainforest areas. Tourists are invited to snorkel in the clear blue waters of the north of the Island, or if they prefer an on land experience, bird watching proves a popular activity. With over ninety species of bird that inhabit the Island, the National Park is a delightful destination for the nature lovers among us. Head to Neck Bay and try your luck at sighting a humpback whale in the months of May – September!
