Geoff Wood and Rhythm Divine’s Sacred New Year at The Woodford Folk Festival
Here’s one for all you hippies and nature lovers out there! Geoff Wood and his Rhythm Divine program is packing up for summer and heading north to the Sunshine Coast’s annual Woodford Folk Festival to bring the show’s weekly dose of music and spirituality to life over two days on the Folklorica Stage.
Geoff will present three concerts of traditional and contemporary sacred music over two days at the indigenous and cultural festival including two Sacred New Year Rhythm Divine shows on the 31st December as the clock ticks down to 2012.
One of the concerts will offer an unforgettable and dramatic theatrical experience leading up to the traditional New Year countdown; when Trikaya and the Tashi Lhunpo Monks of Tibet, interpret The Tibetan Book of the Dead, depicting the time between life, death and rebirth with readings and musical meditations.
While visiting Woodford, Rhythm Divine will present and record live sets from a diverse range of sacred artistry such as Mongolian fiddler and Khoomi chanter Bukh-chuluun Ganburged and Persian sufi ney, to Earth Sync Collective, a group of musicians from 2004 tsunami-affected countries such as Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia who will pay a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit.
If you are heading to the Woodford Folk Festival over the holidays make sure you visit the Folklorica Stage on Friday 30 December 1pm or on Saturday 31 December at 8pm or 11pm to see Geoff and the Radio National Rhythm Divine program.
Rhythm Divine broadcasts every Friday night 9.05pm on-air and online (www.abc.net.au/radionational/rhythmdivine), and from Sunday 29 January, will start in a new 6am Sunday timeslot as part of Radio National’s change of schedule.
