Discovery Recommends Cocktail Bar 1806
Whether you’re visiting Melbourne on a holiday or getting settled for a few months, you’re going to need somewhere to find the good bars in Melbourne when it comes to heading out in the evening. This month our favourite hostel in Melbourne, Discovery, recommends Cocktail Bar 1806.
Cocktail Bar 1806
The year 1806 saw Buenos Aires captured by the British, Lewis and Clarke discovering a 105 ft skeleton of a blue whale in Oregon and the word ‘cocktail’ was officially defined in the english language.
Cocktail bar 1806 in Melbourne has an extremely zealous commitment to its atmosphere, brand and its trade – they make cocktails and they make them well. The decor of 1806 hasn’t just got a few old books or stools thrown about the place to try and culminate a vintage aesthetic, you are enveloped at every angle by 19th Century styled furniture, decorations and artwork.
Bright red velvet drapes hang from the bar, grand chandeliers light the room and the old taught leather chairs you expect to see Mr Wilde seated upon, accompany every table and booth.
All of this isn’t a lavish compensation however, as their tools appear state of the art and their selection of beverages along with their professional conduct has won them a series of awards since opening in 2007 including; “Best Cocktail List in the World”, “Bar Operator of the Year” and “Cocktail Bar of the Year”.
As well as catering for walk-ins just after a few drinks with friends, a range of activities are also available at 1806 such as:
Cocktail Degustation
Try four different expertly prepared cocktails accompanied by uniquely compatible food bites. This is perfect when you just can’t decide what to get, just let the staff know in advance!
Cocktail Masterclass
The cocktail masterclasses run by 1806 will definitely provide a laugh and hopefully you can come out the other side with something drinkable!
Bombay Sapphire Gin Odyssey
An interactive taste-testing tribute to Ivano Tonutti, the Master of Botanicals for Bombay Sapphire. Four handcrafted cocktails will be served accompanied by four dishes with complementing flavours.
To top it all off the downstairs bar, aptly named ‘The Understudy’, is also available to be rented out for private functions and groups of up to 35 people. Have a look on the 1806 website for a full list of their cocktails and to book a function.
