Hervey Bay
Hervey Bay is not just the ideal crossing point to Fraser Island; it’s a tourist destination in its own right. While sitting just on the water’s edge from the famous sand island, Hervey Bay is blessed with great nightlife, spectacular beaches and plenty of accommodation.
Hervey Bay is also recognised as the whale-watching capital of the world, with the humpback whales taking to the waters around the town from July to early November each year.
Humpback whales migrate from Antarctica during the winter to the warmer waters of Australia, and return during the spring. This results in great sightings of these gentle giants, from land or by boat, along the east coast of Australia. Hervey Bay is the top spot to witness them and many tours invite you to take a closer look on a cruise. Through time, the whales have become increasingly comfortable with the boats that join then on the ocean, and you can often find they are more than willing to greet and “perform” for visitors.
Other bucket list opportunities are available in the form of a skydive or jet ski, but you can find more calming activities such as kayaking, cycling, horse riding and golf. If you’d rather do absolutely nothing with your time, you are more than welcome to just chill out on the beach and take a dip in the blue waters of the shore whenever the heat gets too much for you.
Hervey Bay is one of the most active and inviting areas you will find in Australia, where city meets the beach and marine life comes up to say hello. Don’t miss out on everything this buzzing bay has to offer.
