Huge spike in Google search from Britons wanting to migrate to Australia due to Brexit decision

A major spike in the number of people from Britain searching through Google to find out how they can migrate to Australia has been discovered and showed by Google Analytics, following the historic Brexit decision in the United Kingdom.

Britons wanting to migrate to Australia due to Brexit

The number of those who are searching for the keywords ‘immigration to Australia’ peaked on Friday at around 1830h (AEST), after most of the British people voted to leave the European Union. Said an immigration expert from the Australian National University, Professor Glenn Withers, ”The grass does look greener on the other side at the moment.”

According to Professor Withers, it was not a surprise at all to him that a lot of Britons expressed their interest in migrating to Australia during and after the campaign. ”The disdain in the United Kingdom has driven people to think about other options,” the professor said.

Google Data immigration to Australia

Data from Google Analytics shows that the words ‘immigration to Australia’ shot up several times in the days that led up to the Brexit vote however, the peak showed on Friday, June 24th, at 6:30pm AEST after it was announced by major media outlets that the Leave votes had it. Mr Boris Johnson, who expressed his desire to ‘take control’ of the borders in the United Kingdom, the irony may be lost to him as he played a major role in the campaign for Britain to leave the EU.

Mr Johnson may soon be able to have more control of people who are coming into the UK, but he won’t be able to control the British people from wanting to migrate to the sunnier shores of Australia.

According to Professor Withers, there won’t be any impact on the immigration laws of Australia following the Brexit decision as ”British nationals who were eligible before are still eligible now.”

He explained that Australia does not have a non-discriminatory policy and that an increase in immigration would in fact, have a huge benefit on the economy of Australia.

Brits settle in Australia

”The Brits have traditionally settled well here and in uncertain times a steady flow of immigrants would keep the economy growing,” Professor Withers said.
