Mount Pleasant
Mount Pleasant is the birthplace of Australia´s fine wine and is immersed in history. Legend has it that the wines at this cellar door are more than a hundred years old, and were once looked over by Maurice O´Shea, an iconic winemaker in the country. It is this legend, that Mount Pleasant staff look to uphold to this day. The team is respectful, pleasant and ever willing to share their story and talk about the different types of wines that are produced. It is no wonder that this winery is called Mount Pleasant, as a visit here offers a relaxing and enjoyable experience. The scenic beauty of the valley surrounding the winery, set against the breathtaking Brokenback Range seemed to have changed little since O´Shea´s time. The cellar door and the restaurant all offer this phenomenal view and surrounding for guests to enjoy during their time at Mount Pleasant. When in Mount Pleasant make sure to taste their Old Hill Shiraz and their Elizabeth Semillon, the wines come highly recommended.

Gundog Estate
The Gundog Estate known for its Shiraz and Semillion, has a bit of local history that´s incorporated into its cellar door. The old Pokolbin schoolhouse was converted into a cellar door by those behind the estate. It is said the schoolhouse was where the regions children would come to learn how to write, read and practice basic arithmetic in years gone by. Today, however, there´s no detention for not knowing the difference in process between secondary and primary fermentation. The Hunter Valley wines at the Gundog Estate come with a contemporary twist and winemaker Matt Burton is happy to answer any questions from visitors. The cellar door is a hive of activity during the weekends with visitors sampling classic wines. Make sure to ask for a sampling of a glass from the new Indomitus range as well as the Wild Semillon.
