India’s new favorite hotspot is Australia There are a few good reasons why so many Indians prefer going to Australia for tourism and family trips, education and business, two of them being the rising tendency to travel, as well as the high value when it comes to travelling. The 4th largest source market for Australia is Chennai, and the visitors from its metro, through the power of tourism, has been able to contribute around Rs 500 crore to the economy of Australia.
This means that about 100 million Australian Dollars have already been contributed to the economy. According to the country manager of India Gulf, Tourism Australia, Mr Nishant Kashikar, there is an increase of 21 per cent in the expenditures of visitors from Chennai. Meanwhile, around 1.14 billion Australian dollars have been spent by Indians as a whole during their trips for the year 2015.
Mr Kashikar claims that for Australia, India is among the top 10 markets in the world. He also believes that the fastest growing markets in the world for Australia are Bengaluru, Chennai, New Delhi, and Mumbai.
Tourism enabled the country of India to make significant contributions to the economy of Australia. As a matter of fact, it went further up by nearly 19 per cent and has already reached 1.14 billion AUD. Over the last 12 months, visitors from India to Australia have spent around Rs 5,500 crore to its economy.
The general manager of South South East Asia & Gulf Countries, Tourism Australia, Mr Michael Newcombe, says that Australia has emerged to be an ideal, not to mention much cheaper destination, compared to countries in Europe. ”We desire to see India emerge as among the top 5 positions,” he said.
Mr Newcombe, who was also in the city of Chennai, said at an interview that there is indeed huge potential in India when it comes to becoming a source market for Australia, and this needs to be unlocked. Last year, there are around 3,000,800 Australians who visited India.
There is now a huge surge of tourism activity in Australia through its bilateral trade agreement with Australia, but why stop there? Now Australia also wants the aviation industry to participate in a solid way.
”We want more direct flights between Australia and India,” said Mr Newcombe. ”We now have an open immigration policy, 85 agencies in Australia can process visa applications electronically and we have also introduced a 3 year multiple entry visa.”
”India has fascinating places,” Mr Newcombe continued on to say. ”I like Mumbai. Indians are humble and proud of their heritage.”
