INTERVIEW: Allman Brown

Follow us on Google News

Allman Brown. UK singer/songwriter Allman Brown will release his anticipated sophomore album Darling, It’ll Be Alright this spring. Out on May 10th, it features an exciting evolution for the London-via-Hong Kong artist who expands upon his sonic palette while continuing to maintain his raw sensibility and aching melodic mastery. Today he released his new song “Home,” a moving missive from the road with carefully etched power and passion.

Hey Allman Brown, welcome to BBM, great to speak with you! Looking forward to seeing you play in London in June.

What’s your favourite place to eat in the city for all our travelling fans here?

Don’t get me started – Bao in Soho is amazing. The best pho in town is at a place called Phat Phuc just off the King’s Road in Chelsea. If you want some fine dining shenanigans, then Story in London Bridge is incredible and if pizza is your thing, go to Homeslice in Neal’s Yard in Covent Garden which has the added bonus of being right by Monmouth Coffee. You recently collaborated with Ian Barter? Tell us more about how that came about and what it was like?

Ian and I met through an old manager we shared. We hit it off straight away and have been friends ever since. Working with Ian is a genuine pleasure because along with being very talented, he is very supportive of me and believes in me. We also trust each other.

Who are your musical influences for this new album?

Michael Kiwanuka, Feist, Springsteen, Paul Simon, Brandi Carlile.

What is your favourite music venue you’ve performed at in the world?

That’s a tough one. Paradiso in Amsterdam is up there. I also had an amazing night in Beijing recently at a place called Dusk Dawn Club. Also Haldern Pop Bar in Germany is great.

What was the inspiration behind the name for your second album (Darling, It’ll be Alright)?

I wanted to write a song about reassurance and encouragement. The title is a sentiment I need to hear from time to time. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed right now and we all need help from the people we love every once in a while.

Any live shows you’re looking forwards to in in particular for 2019?

This may sound corny but I look forward to every show. Performing live is one of my favourite things to do. That said I will be playing a support slot for Dido at The Roundhouse in London which will be pretty cool. Allman Brown.
