Think Mac Demarco meets Father John Misty and Jeff Buckley at the pub…where they proceed to laugh and cry over many beers.
Sought after, Sydney based guitarist, Ben Panucci (Ngaiire, Tuka, Paul Mac and PON CHO) has now taken centre stage with his debut release as a solo artist, from his self produced album ‘Age of Consequence’. Showcasing his talents as a guitarist, singer-songwriter and producer, Ben’s highly personal lyrics and intricate, yet uplifting production will be sure to catch ears.

What’s your name and what do you?
Ben Panucci. I write, play and produce music.

What kind of music do you play? What best describes your sound?
I play music that I guess would be best described as a blend of indie, singer-songwriter and rock, maybe with some jazzy and psychedelic elements in there at times too.

What would you say is your biggest influence?
There’s too many fighting for my attention! First things that came to mind were lush/pretty sounding harmony and the people around me in my life.

Explore Darwin, Northern Territory

Where’s the best club/venue you’ve ever played?
I recently did a gig in a natural amphitheater on the top of a mountain in Padova, Italy. That was pretty cool! And very cold!

And the best festival?
Woodford is the festival I think I’ve probably had the most fun at.

Where’s the most unique festival you’ve been to and what was so special?
I think most festivals have varying levels of authentic, individual, set-us-apart-from-the-rest parts to them, couldn’t really pinpoint one in particular though sorry, boring I know.

What was the most difficult festival you ever went to and was it worth it?
I played at a Jazz festival in Dubbo once that was entirely in an RSL. It was horrible and we didn’t even get free beer!

Have you ever traveled somewhere that you feel has influenced your life and music that you play/produce?
I think everywhere I have travelled has! Going to New Orleans was a big eye opener for me. I’ve played a lot of that style of music over the years, but seeing how deeply a part of everyday culture it is there was very inspiring.

Where’s your hometown?
I live in Sydney, NSW, Australia.
The Dock in Redfern.

Where’s your favourite clubbing destination?
I don’t like clubbing.

Is there something you can’t travel without?
I’d be lost without my signature edition Rolex and Dolce and Gabbana travel bag.

What travel destination would you recommend our readers add to their bucket list?
Catania, Sicily.

Where was the most surprising place you discovered a big music influence?
I saw a great busker in Westend in Brisbane last year playing beautiful West African style guitar.

You’ve just released your debut single ‘Come Over & your second single ‘Quite’, what location did you record them in?
Firstly in a studio in Surry Hills, Sydney. Then at my home studio, Pooch Sounds!

When should we expect a full album?
Late September/early October

Where can we see you play over the next few months?
I’m playing at Waywards, Newtown on the 19th of July in support of Merpire. My single launch in Sydney is on the 11th of August at The Union Hotel in Newtown. Then the following week I’m doing it in Melbourne on the 19th of August at The Gasometer Hotel in Collingwood.

Any current travel plans for the rest of 2018 outside of touring?
Not at the moment unfortunately although this has inspired me to look into some!

Anything else you would like to add?
Thanks for your support.
