Interview – Shapeshifters

Follow us on Google News

Shapeshifters InterviewShapeshifters will be dropping into town rather shortly, so we thought we’d catch up with them to see how it’s all going.

Q: You guys have done a lot of touring in 2011, from Croatia, Russia, Holland to Barcelona! It’s December now, what were some of the highlights this year?

A: It has been a great year with many highlights but one that stands out is The Belgrade Arena. It was an amazing feeling to have 15,000 ravers at one of our shows!

Q: Since you got together as The Shapeshifters and set up Nocturnal Groove you guys have been pretty staunch about keeping things DIY. How important is maintaining that kind of creative control to you?

A: Its imperative – keeping a creative control over our work makes us stronger.

Q: From the start the pair of you have worked from within the music industry from Down Boy to now running your own label. Do you think that kind of experience has helped keep your perspective in what can be a pretty tricky industry?

A: Definitely – we both worked in the in music for a long time before the initial success of The Shapeshifters. Our experience has given us a rounded and realistic foundation to the industry.

Q: ‘Lola’s Theme’ was and is still one of the biggest and most recognizable tracks on dance floors from the UK to Oz. What do you think of the track now?

A: It is still a blessing and we are very proud of it. We still play it and we still love it!

Q: You’re playing a couple of Australian gigs one being the big Ivy Pool party on Boxing Day and some, but is there anything you really want for Christmas?

A: An aspirin!

Q: After almost ten years Shapeshifting, what makes you keep making music?

A: The buzz of people enjoying our music. As long as the audience is there to listen to, enjoy and dance to our music we will keep on doing what we love to do.
