interview with DJ Caddell DJ Caddell has just come on board with the new R & B Superclub album and is constantly touring around Australia. BBM spoke to the man himself on the eve of the album’s release.

interview with DJ Caddell What projects are you working on at the moment?

I’m working with R & B Superclub, I’m also at the back end of producing our second track for a new record and I’m about to head to Numea!

Doing so much travel do you find there’s much difference from city to city?

I think Sydney is very much a party scene. It’s very hands in the air and I think it’s a bit more accessible than the rest of the country. I think the rest of the country is not so exposed to the more commercial music. I think the gap has closed now that a lot of DJs are touring as well. And I think that’s been good for Sydney as a lot of people tour out of Sydney and they get a lot of international acts as well.

What sort of venues are you looking for when you tour your live stuff?

I think it’s more of a case of the venues being attracted to me. And if you have a certain way or a certain style that you DJ they will tend to cater you to their venue. A lot of it is mainly venues that know what you do and they think your style will suit that they’re trying to achieve.

How has the scene changed since you first started out?

It’s changed immensely. It’s really gone in a 20 year cycle. When I first came around house was big and now all the 80s electro sounds are back in. Also with the new technology it means we can create an old feel with a new sound. We used to carry a couple of hundred bits of vinyl upstairs and now we carry two USB sticks! It’s amazing.

What are you hoping to get into in the future?

I’ve been doing a lot of events lately. I think I’ll be trying to keep that going as well as my DJing and producing. I think there’s a lot of room to move in the events side of things. You make the whole event happen as opposed to just turning up and playing.
