Visit an outback waterhole, learn how to make billy tea and damper over a fire, and then watch the sunset from a mountaintop – and that’s just your first full day!

On day three, you venture into Jungle Creek, where waterways split in five directions to travel the Cape York Peninsula before reaching the sea. With lunch overlooking the mountain range, you can go in search of ancient Aboriginal rock art before enjoying another spot of billy tea, handmade damper, dinner and a night under the stars.

Waking on day four, you explore this beautiful part of the world even further with a visit to Alwal National Park, named after the endemic and endangered golden-shouldered parrot found here. Usually nesting in termite mounds, you go in search of this special little bird before heading back to camp and discovering more with insightful stories from your hosts.

You leave Olkola Country through Rinyuirru National Park and along Battlecamp Road to Cooktown, where you can relax with a night at a local guesthouse and immerse yourselves on your final night in the depths of northern Queensland. Before you make your way back to Cairns on day six, there’s time to explore Cooktown’s local market, and then take the coastal drive on Bloomfield Track to Cape Tribulation, home to the towering canopies and jungle adventures of the Daintree Rainforest. After a ferry ride across Bloomfield River, you return to Cairns, where you can celebrate with your new friends with a night out in the tropical city.
