Justic – Audio, Video, Disco
The impossibly French-sounding duo of Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé,
aka Justice, are back with ‘Audio, Video, Disco ‘ the sophomore electronica
release from the dance giants ahead of their highly-anticipated album of the
same name.
Audio, Video, Disco is markedly different in tone from the funk-laden electro
smash of their first single Civilsation, ‘A.V.D’ instead feeling rather like the
soundtrack to a relaxed journey on the Metro in 1970’s Paris.
A growling bass line drives layer-upon-layer of ambient synths as the song
gradually builds, piece-by-piece, instrument-by-instrument to the song’s
hypnotic chorus of ‘Audio…Audio…Video…Disco.’ Simple, anthemic and very
Justice. The real beauty in the track is that it demands a second listen to truly
appreciate what has gone into it.
Justice, alongside fellow dance pioneers Daft Punk and ambient specialists Air
make up what appears to be the three musketeers of Gallic electronica, a sound
which continues to push the boundaries and firmly put French music on the map.
Tracks such as this ‘A.V.D’ only continue to solidify that reputation. I bet the
album’s a cracker too.
