Day 1: Perth to Kalbarri

Make a mid-morning or lunchtime stop for refreshments in the historic twin-town of Dongara-Denison before reaching Geraldton and the North West Coastal Highway. Turn off the highway onto Port Gregory Road/George Grey Drive towards Kalbarri and watch the sunset reflect on the dramatic coastal rock formations.

Day 2: Kalbarri National Park

Take a morning river cruise, or head up to the lookouts and hike the trails of Kalbarri National Park to gaze in awe at the rugged river gorge and rock formations. For something a little more adventurous, join a camel or horse trek, jump on a quad bike or kayak, or go canyoning and abseiling with a local guide.  If you’re visiting between June and November, watch for migrating humpback whales and their young calves.

Day 3: Kalbarri to Monkey Mia

Stop at Hamelin Pool Stromatolites for a close encounter with the oldest living marine fossils and get a glimpse of life on Earth over 3.5 million years ago. Take a stroll along Shell Beach which is a long white beach made of billions of tiny shells from just one species. It’s one of only two beaches of its kind in the world.

Day 4: Monkey Mia dolphins

Head straight for the shoreline in the morning for a magical close encounter with Monkey Mia’s friendly bottle-nosed dolphins. Jump aboard a cruise and meet the wild dolphins out in the bay, as well as sea turtles, manta rays, sharks and dugongs. Or discover the unique flora and fauna of Shark Bay with one of the oldest surviving cultures on Earth by joining an Indigenous cultural tour.

Day 5: Monkey Mia to Geraldton

Continue south to Geraldton where more of the region’s history is revealed in the city’s grand colonial heritage, Spanish missionary architecture and Geraldton Museum. Watch the pros in action or test your own skills in the perfect wind and wave conditions at Point Moore, Sunset Beach, St George’s Beach or Coronation Beach.

Day 6: Geraldton to Perth

Enjoy a lazy breakfast on the foreshore, or join a half-day fishing, diving or snorkelling tour to discover Geraldton’s marine adventure playground the 122 coral-fringed Abrolhos Islands. Return to Perth via Lancelin, breaking your journey to watch the sunset from atop the largest sand dunes in Western Australia.
