Karijini National Park Western Australia
TWO billion years ago, way back when Liverpool last won a league title, the landscape that would form Karjini National Park in Western Australia was just beginning to emerge.
Fast forward to 2009 and the second-largest park in Western Australia is one of the country’s most spectacular natural attractions offering amazing hiking trails through ancient gorges, crystal clear rock pools and waterfalls.
Just North of the Tropic of Capricorn Karijini National Park Western Australia
Situated just north of the Tropic of Capricorn, the ideal times to visit the park are late autumn, winter and early spring with a climate that’s probably best described as tropical semi-desert.
Karijini National Park is a picture-perfect home to many different wildlife habitats. Huge termite mounds dot the horizon and it wouldn’t be unheard of to catch a glimpse of red kangaroos, rock-wallabies, echidnas, goannas or pythons.
Famous Gorges Permanent water pool.
The Park’s famous gorges are in the north. As beautiful as they are, they can be extremely dangerous – but it’s certainly worth the risk. Further downstream, the gorges widen and the sides become slopes of loose rock rather than 100m sheer cliff faces.
Permanent water pools means a refreshing swim is only a piece of swimwear and a towel away and there are plenty of picnic areas for people who enjoy eating surrounded by beautiful scenery.
