Kathrin Longhurst: Women of the Revolution
At the Catherine Asquith Gallery the provocative and powerful work of Kathrin Longhurst is being exhibited between August 20th and September 7th 2013.
The contemporary figurative artist has a diverse background, growing up in Communist East Germany and having experienced extensive travel in America, Asia and Europe.
Her latest exhibition takes a look at women in the perspective of opposing cultural outlooks – such as east and west, socialism and capitalism and masculine and feminine identities. Longhurst creates striking and masterly imagery that creates juxtaposition between feminine appeal and harsh visual connotations of masculine professions.
Every picture is charged with a historical or political message, and the exhibition must not be missed for its satire, if not the aesthetic quality.
