Kayaking In Croatia With Malik Adventures

Follow us on Google News

Dreamy blue waters met by idyllic villages and rocky coves, the Croatian coastline is stunningly beautiful. While sailing trips smother the sea surrounding Croatia’s tourist islands of Pag and Hvar, further out is the laidback island of Molat, the perfect location to step inside a kayak and go in search of secret spots.

Malik Adventures offer one-day to week-long kayaking tours from Molat to the most beautiful and secluded areas of North Dalmatia, which is dotted with densely scattered islands and over 50 islets and reefs, as well as shipwrecks, beaches, cliffs and snorkelling sites. As a result, there are many routes and itineraries to paddle to your heart’s content. If you’re after a glimpse of what the area is like, you can opt for a day of kayaking, but multi-days trips are most popular – and rightfully so – for letting the culture, people and island life get beneath your skin.

Beginning each tour in Molat, you can get to the island by catamaran, but tickets can only be booked on the day of departure (don’t worry though, it’s never full) and your Malik Adventures tour guide will meet you as soon as you arrive. After a short while, you can’t help but soak up the attitude of the little island – ever so tranquil with small streets, a beautiful nature and a relaxing pace. With a local guide known to the islanders, not only will you see all of the highlights while kayaking, you’ll also get to stay in a B&B, meet and buy straight from the fishermen, revisit cafes for your morning coffee, soak up island life and spot wildlife both above and beneath the water. This carries into mealtimes. All meals that are provided have a local emphasis on ingredients and character. You eat fish caught that same day from a family-run, organic operation served in their very home.

If the beat of Croatia consumes you and you can’t bear to leave, there are many things to do after your kayaking adventure. Explore the stunning and diverse nature around Zadar with its national parks, including hiking and rock climbing in Paklenica, the rivers of Krka and the lakes of Plitvice; or discover the melting pot of Greek, Roman and Italian influences in the historical cities, with Zadar, Trogir, Sibenik and Split offering a juxtaposition to the serene life on the islands. Zadar, particularly, is awash with entertainment including live music nights, bars, and local to top end eateries.

kayaking in croatia with malik adventures marko mrse

Marko Mrse has been operating Malik Adventures for two years. A local to Molat, he is the third generation of his family to call the island home. For a while, he ran all of the tours himself, as he is one of the few people to know all of the hidden spots and spectacular kayaking areas. Now leading a small team, his guides are not only expert paddlers, but also have the area under their skin – the winds, currents and local people and their customs. They are either local or have been on Molat long enough to know every corner of the island and surrounding islands.
