Kedr Livanskiy – Debut EP January Sun Out Now
Russian producer Kedr Livanskiy has released her debut EP ‘January Sun’, which is out now on 2MR/Remote Control records. Being born in 1990, a pivotal time in the shift of values within post Soviet Union Russia, Kedr has had to battle the sense of displacement since birth, forcing her to search for a sense of self in a number of creative endeavors, this EP is a symbol of all those years.
‘January Sun’ comes to us birthed from this community as a swirling sonic image of Russian winter, this is most evident in the tracing industrial sounds on ‘Sgoraet (Burning Down)’. The EP then moves into the tropical optimism that is the arrival of spring in ‘April’. Livanskiy’s grips the listener with her unique mixture of dramatic and wistful chords that really give of a sense of anxiousness that reflect her younger years in post Soviet Russia. These chords are backed up by her voice beaming through each track, every note capturing the sense of a young girl trying to sing her way out of the cold.
