Kilter plays The Sound You Need Festival in Malta in August

Follow us on Google News

Riding at the forefront of the new wave of electronic producers coming out of Australia is Kilter. The young Sydney based producer’s tropically infused, percussion laden beats have seen a loyal fan base build among punters, peers and industry types alike. Here we chat to him about his top 10 tracks before he plays The Sound You Need festival in Malta.

Festivals in Australia

“Bolide” – Kllo

I think these are guys are going to be huuuuuuuuuge. One of the most exciting groups out of Australia at the moment, Kllo make really beautiful dance music but with a strong pop sensibility. Bollide is weird, dark and often doesn’t make sense but it just works so damn well.

“Harder Without You” – Deutsch Duke

I can’t give this guy enough love. A super talented song writer (Flight Facilities, Disco Montego etc), “Harder Without You” is Deutsch Duke’s debut release as a solo artist and my god it is good.

“Golden Age” – Lanks

I really like Lanks because Lanks does Lanks. His tracks are quirky and full of interesting textures, sounds and ideas. I spent two days in the studio with him recently and can say that his new material is only getting better from here.

“For Good” – Remi ft Sampa The Great

Remi has probably been my favourite hip hop artist out of Australia for a while now. I love his voice, his messages and his soulful beats (shout outs to Sensible J). This one is an absolute summer jam and is only made better with Sampa The Great, another Aussie doing really cool things.

“Loose My Head” – Rufus

Coming from an album stacked with radio ready tracks and super catchy hooks I found myself really loving the simplicity and chillness of Loose My Head. I’ve had some of my best times on the road with the RUFUS guys and their music always strikes a special place for me.

“Courtesy Of” – Running Touch

While his first few tracks showed promise Running Touch really hit his stride with Courtesy Of. Favourite elements would be the awesome piano riff and the minute and a half of nothing pegged onto the end of the song…

“Chroma” – Basenji

Stepping away from his usual hyper-cute club vibes, Basenji went for a 7 1/2 minute burner with this one. Chroma feels like the perfect closing track of an all night beach party. Looking forward to hearing it in Malta!

“Tremble” – Nicole Millar

I was lucky enough to hear this track the day it was written and, along with the rest of the people in the room, knew it was going to be a biggie. Produced by Dan Farber it is definitely a thumper.

“Perculiar” – Harts

After spending some time writing with Prince before his death, Harts’ music has a flavour quite unique to himself within Australia. Perculiar is rammed with hooks but what I love most about it is the guitar and bass progression and tones.

“Anhedoniac” – Andrei Eremin ft Kucka

Andrei is a Melbourne based producer who has earned huge accolades (grammy nom) as a mixing engineer for Chet Faker, Hiatus Kaiyote and more. His own productions are beautifully crafted and complex. I love the eerie vibe on this one.
