Rototom Sunsplash
16th August – 23rd August 2014
Rototom Sunsplash is one of the world’s largest reggae festivals, and this year’s line-up is even bigger than last year: Beenie Man, Sean Paul, Lauryn Hill, and the one and only Shaggy are amongst the many performers.

Taking place every summer at Benicassim, a few miles north of Valencia, Spain, the festival imitates the traditional Jamaican Reggae Sunsplash and, even without large sponsorship or corporate backing, it has grown into one of the most anticipated festivals

Wilderness Festival
7th August – 10th August 2014
If you want a festival that’ll make you feel like a kid again, head to the mystical and magical Wilderness Festival.

With live music, theatre, yoga, sports, gourmet food, dancing, and craft workshops, this all-in-one-festival can be pretty much anything you want it to be.
The initial civilised vibe of the festival goes clean out the window when the corsets come off for some mass skinny-dipping sessions. The night also delivers its fair share of debaucheries, especially on Saturday night when it’s time for the masquerade ball…

Øyafestivalen
5th August – 9th August 2014
You may not be able to pronounce it, but Øya is the place to be if you’re into big name acts and random Scandinavian bands (who isn’t, tbh?).

Queens of the Stone Age, The National and Janelle Monae are all headlining Øya this year, and no doubt you’ll be there arm waving along with the rest of the crowd. But have some real fun by picking a Norwegian band that you’ve never heard of with a name you can’t say.
The festival is ridiculously well organised: bands hit the stage at precisely the designated time; there’s no queuing; bathrooms are plentiful, and food vendors dish out organic local fare.
Tickets are only left for the 6th August date, so run, Forrest, run!

Westman Islands Festival
1st August – 4th August 2014
You probably won’t be able to pronounce its name, Þjóðhátíð (it means “festival of the people”), but if you’ve ever dreamed of partying at the end of the world, then make your way to this windswept island…

Gear up in day-glo fisherman’s rubber and stock up on enough booze to make you forget your freezing precious bits, and you’ll have the time of your life.
The festival finale comes when thousands of torch-bearing revellers gather round the rim of the volcano to recreate Eldfell’s famous lava eruption.

kaZantip
20th August – 30th August 2014
How does a wild, colourful, and sexy week-long beach party on the Black Sea sound?

kaZantip is a tour-de-force that requires stamina; parties can go on for 24hrs a day. The beach is two square kilometres of pure party paradise where summer lovers and creative souls unite to worship all things the sun, sand, and sea.
The festival normally takes place on the beaches of Popovka, Crimea, however, due to political unrest in Crimea, the 2014 edition of kaZantip has been moved to Anaklia, Georgia

Pukkelpop
14th – 16th August 2014
This Belgian music festival has an odd-sounding name and an even stranger translation (the term ‘pukkel’ is actually the Dutch word for ‘pimple’, so the literal translation could be “Pimple Pop”). Maybe this is why hoards of us come to party every year…

Pukkelpop is a three-day alternative music festival that’s held between a dual carriageway in a large enclosure of fields and woodland in the small village of Kiewit, just north of Hasselt. It started as a small, local music event before rising to become an outdoor festival that is now considered one of Europe’s greatest music events. Outkast, Queens of the Stone Age, and Calvin Harris are among the big names performing this year.
14th August day tickets are the only ones left, so go go go!

Way Out West
7th August – 9th August 2014
With a focus on music, film, art and an eco-friendly footprint, the Swedish Woodstock has become one of Europe’s most popular cultural festivals.

Since its inception in 2006, Way Out West – so named for the city of Göteborg’s location on the southwest coast of Sweden – has earned accolades from around the world, including MTV’s O Award for Most Innovative Festival.
A partnership between Sony, Spotify and Stockholm-based music promoter Luger, Sweden’s music scene is on full display here, with everyone from hometown hero Jose Gonzalez to national icon Håkan Hellstrom getting a stage – and a huge audience – to themselves.
