Last Minute Holiday Ideas From The UK
Summer is drawing to an end, but the holidays don’t have to be over. There are hundreds of last minute holiday destinations around Europe only a cheap flight fare away.
If you can afford to be flexible with your dates and keep an eye out on the flash sales, who’s to stop you from jetting off for a last fix of sunlight? Peak season is ending and so are peak prices, so here are some great summer locations which get plenty of low-cost flights from UK.
1. Malaga, Spain
Easy to get to and easy on the wallet, with weather averages floating around the high-twenties and plenty of sunshine, Malaga boasts a beautiful seaside promenade, stunning panoramas and a charming old city centre with small traditional wineries and seafood tapas. It’s also a gateway to the rest of Andalucia, with historic riverside Seville, fun-loving beachside Marbella and kite-surfer’s haven Tarifa – which, incidentally, is only a 20 minute ferry from Morocco, and Africa!
2. Ibiza, Spain
Small island, big reputation. Now the peak season is dying down, you can still make the most of the hedonistic paradise, but at a lower personal cost. It’ll still be buzzing, but the hotels, beaches and super clubs will be less crowded as summer dies down.
3. Algarve, Portugal
The country’s southern coastal region has been a favourite with vitamin-D-deprived Brits for centuries, and a ridiculous number of flights go in and out of Faro airport every day. Albufeira is a burgeoning holiday destination, with beautiful beaches and a more-than-healthy nightlife. For some more peaceful R&R, head to any of the Algarve’s countless small fishing villages for a more authentic experience.
4. Pula, Croatia
On the fringes of the Balkans, Pula on the tip of the Istrian peninsula is a short ferry ride from Venice and stock-full of classical Roman heritage, from age-old arches to the Arena, the world’s sixth largest surfing amphitheatre, which is host to an annual Film Festival. It is also home, arguably, to the best pizza in Europe: Pizza Bolognese, at Pizza Jupiter. For less than a fiver.
5. Paris, France
Inevitable, really. It’s only two hours from London by Eurostar, or you can take a ferry across the Channel, ride in the tunnel, take your pick. Home of the Eiffel Tower, world-famous fashion, countless writers’ cafes and delicious croissants. Why are you in Chelmsford when you could be taking a stroll down the Champs Elysees? Au revoir.
