Late Night Tales: Django Django – out 9th May
The new Late Night Tales compilation is coming on 9th May, with Django Django at the helm. The band is currently in the studio working on the follow-up to their 2012 debut, so this may be a good way to wait for it.
“We wanted to produce a mix that represented the band. It’s what we’re all into, so everyone put forward suggestions. At the heart of it all is our parents’ collections, with our tastes mixed in”, drummer and producer Dave Maclean says.
As you’d expect then, this is an extremely eclectic compilation. Most importantly, though, it feels like a real album. Who knew a Leo Kottke song could flow so well into a Gulp song? There are some classics with The Beach Boys’ ‘Surf’s Up’ and Massive Attack’s ‘Man Next Door’, as well as more obscure music from the likes of Philip Glass and Ramadanman. It also includes an excellent cover of The Monkees’ ‘Porpoise Song’ by Django Django themselves.
