Live Review: A night with...M.A.N.D.Y.BBM’s Meredith Berman recently headed down to A Night With M.A.N.D.Y, and what a night it was…

Being based in East London, even the mere thought of heading West is daunting. However when given the opportunity to witness Patrick Bodmer, one half of the infamous M.A.N.D.Y. perform an eight hour set, I jumped at the chance.

Based at The Loft in Wllesden, West London, I must say the journey was just that – a journey. Having travelled on every means of transportation the capital has to offer, we turned up at the venue not knowing what to expect. Walking into what looked like an old courtyard; the ascending steps on the side of the venue transported you to a Loft-style apartment with one big room and an easy access bar. But the decor and layout wasn’t what made the night impeccable – it was the music.

With Bodmer dropping the likes of minimal, techno and house, the crowd was evidently pleased. The floors undulated beneath your feet as you danced the night away, the pulsating bass kept you wanting more and the beats dropped left tingles up your spine. M.A.N.D.Y. pushes boundaries that other electronic producers fail to push, and because of this their music has become a mainstream pleaser and incredibly current.

We decided that whilst taking a break to enjoy a bit of fresh air we would mingle with some of the locals. How misguided we were to think the attendees were locals. Guests had literally travelled the lengths of London to watch one half of the duo perform, and for very good reason.

However having seen the distance travelled was far, we remained poised and in composure for the first half of the night, agreeing we must make it home at a reasonable hour. It was only at 5.30 AM (and six hours of solid grooving) I looked at my watch to realise that we had missed the bus; we had missed the train, and well – a taxi would certain cost an arm and a leg. So after no consideration whatsoever, we decided we would have to remain where we were until the first tube at 7 AM.

A night with M.A.N.D.Y seemed to turn in to the day when we left, and the following afternoon my feet were sore. However, in the world of good music I must say – no pain, no gain. Leaving a venue without aching feet means something must’ve gone horribly wrong, so watching my friend and I hobble to the first tube must mean M.A.N.D.Y. was an absolute success.
