Live Review: Moonlight Cinema, SydneyLive Review: Moonlight Cinema, Sydney Moonlight Cinema is chic and romantic, but may make you bats**t crazy.

As the sun set over the gorgeous vista of Centennial Parklands, the nocturnal Aussie wildlife began to stir.

The sight of fluffy, winged critters swooping overhead only added to the mystical atmosphere of the evening. That is until they started bombing.

Travel to Western Australia

On at least four occasions over the course of two hours, I got nailed. You don’t get that at Odeon.

But then, Moonlight Cinema offered a lot you don’t get at the multiplex.

A range of appetising food and drink – and the ability to bring your own without feeling like you are smuggling it in – was top of that list.

Among the dishes on offer were Salt and Pepper Squid, Fish and Chips and the usual range of hot dogs, nachos and popcorn.

The booze was not too steep either at $5 for a glass of wine.

The atmosphere of an outdoor cinema, especially a prime spot like this Sydney parkland, could not be touched either.

Laying back on a bean bed under the stars, any film will become enchanting, even if the picture does occasionally wobble in the wind and the audio sounds like it could be coming from a toilet (you get used to it).

Moonlight Cinema has booked a stellar line-up of films too, that will appeal to a complete range of viewers.

The opening night feature was a preview of Dustin Hoffman’s first turn behind the camera, Quartet, which it is safe to say was punting for a more mature audience with its plot revolving around four aged opera singers reuniting on stage for a concert to raise cash for their retirement home.

It is a sweet film, though – funny and touching.

Upcoming films include Ted, the new Twilight, Skyfall and a Grease sing-a-long.

Moonlight Cinema runs at Centennial Parklands, Sydney, until March 31, 2013 and also at Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Port Douglas and Melbourne. Go to moonlight.com.au.
