Live Review: Playfest 2012
The BBM team recently ventured to a field in Eccles, Norfolk to get down and dirty at Playfest 2012.
Only in its second year, Playfest definitely shows promise to be a regular on the UK Festival circuit.
The day kicked off with Tellison taking to the main stage, with a small crowd gathering. A great band, they were definitely rocking it and certainly piqued interest amongst festival goers.
Wondering around Playfest, each bar had its own individual theme, from circus to Hawaiian style ‘full moon’, it was nice to see that attention to detail had been paid throughout the various areas. Venturing to the reggae tent, it kicked out a chilled vibe, but we were soon consumed by the dance tent. It’s fair to say that the majority of the day was spent here, raving in wellies. From DJ Zinc to EZ and Shy FX, Playfest was pumping. But there was something that everyone was waiting for. The main event of the festival…Roots Manuva.
As everyone packed into the tent, tension was rising as impatient fans waited for 45 minutes for the hip hop heavyweight to take to the stage. The stage began to fill up with members of his band, who flippantly smoked on stage whilst they awaited their leader, and then it was time. The man himself appeared from the shadows and began spitting tracks from his newest album ‘4everevolution’. One thing was for sure, shit was getting wild as a slightly aggressive crowd saluted their hero.
We later caught up with Roots Manuva backstage, after narrowly avoiding loosing our teeth at his set. As we clambered through the brambles and slipped through fences we eventually arrived at the porter cabin where Rodney and his band were chilling. And my what a chilled out guy he is. But we’ll tell you all about that in the interview.
Other highlights of the day were The Big Pink who had the entire festival rocking.
Playfest’s three days of mayhem in Eccles also included acts such as Delilah, Little Comets, Feeder, The Pigeon Detectives, and Scroobius Pip to name a mere handful of the fabulous line up.
Basically, we definitely give Playfest the BBM seal of approval, so make sure it’s on your festival list next summer.
