Macbeth Film Review
Macbeth. Murderous. Mad. Menacing. Shakespeare’s famous character comes to life in this enthralling adaptation of war, love and loss.
Director Justin Kurzel provides us with the tale that many will know, but in all its glory, gory, sweat-sodden detail. An epic tale indeed, brilliantly and brutally brought to screen.
As we delve into the mind of Macbeth, the scenery becomes tighter around the viewers imagination, the ghostly rolling hills of Skye, Scotland become clearer with rage, the burning fires of heart and soul are etched sharply into the retinas of those witnessing this modern masterpiece.
The bloodthirsty nature of Macbeth is heightened by the nature of Lady Macbeth, lending her hand, her words, her sword to kill King Duncan and take title to the throne. Lady Macbeth offering her own callous side; cold-blooded and toughened.
Michael Fassbender’s Macbeth is beautifully set alongside Marion Cotillard’s Lady Macbeth. With a support cast, barely a support, more so a fierce collective of powerful personalities, including Sean Harris as Macduff, David Thewlis as King Duncan and Paddy Considine as Banquo, Kurzel ramps up the intense, dark, stormy nature that this story deserves.
From the opening scene of an infant’s funeral rolling into a raging, bruising battle, with barely a word spoken, it is clear to tell that this adaptation has not skipped a beat when it comes to the devastating brutality that Shakespeare captured when first written.
The landscape stunning in all its dark, stormy and threatening vulnerability, off-set with forcible performances from the all-star cast, viewers are taken on a journey of sheer exhilaration, albeit through the madness and murderous Macbeth.
Visually stunning and acted in such a way that you can tell everyone wanted to do this film absolute justice, Macbeth is a bloody, broody, beast of a tale, sensationally brought to all its glory.
Love him or hate him, All Hail Macbeth.
