Every year, Sydney comes together to celebrate the LGBTQI community. Famous around the world, there are two weeks of fun that culminate in the glittering parade. Here’s a rundown of some of the best events not to miss.
The Girlie Show By Wayne Tunks
Bursting with ‘90s fashion and music, The Girlie Show tells the story of five Madonna fans as they wait in line to see the queen of pop. Bonding over their love of the singer, we learn all about these new friends in a show that’s all about coming out, rebelling and finding acceptance.

An Art Tribute To David Bowie
As an inspiration to the LGBTQI community, with his eccentricity, passion and pure guts, a group of Sydney artists will pay tribute to David Bowie during Mardi Gras with a collection of art that is daring, different, weird, funny and a little bit mad – just like the man himself.

Judy, Barbra, Liza, Bette – These Are Names We Shan’t Forget
A no-holds-barred celebration of the finest divas to have graced the Earth, this new show courtesy of Screamers features rarely-seen video of these ladies in action, accompanied by some of their greatest songs performed live by local Sydney singers.

Mardi Gras Film Festival
The 23rd Mardi Gras Film Festival will showcase some of the most inspiring stories on film including Summertime, about a young lady leaving her Paris farm for a feminist movement; Beautiful Something, a feature that follows four gay men as they navigate art, sex and love in one night; and Remembering The Man, the story of Tim Conigrave and John Caleo, the real-life couple from Holding The Man.

Queer Thinking Launch – Kristin Davis: In Conversation
An iconic star thanks to her role as Charlotte in the HBO series, Sex and the City, Kristin Davis will head Down Under to launch Queer Thinking with a talk at Carriageworks to discuss UNHCR’s work in preventing and responding to sexual and gender-based violence.
